Around the world, black hand prints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.
In a dark and dusty shop, a devil’s supply of human teeth grown dangerously low.
And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherworldly war.
Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she’s prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she’s about to find out.
When one of the strangers—beautiful, haunted Akiva—fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love. It did not end well.

Can Laini Taylor write or what? In face, she writes so well that I had to reread parts of this book just to make sure I understood it correctly. I'm not a writer and I'm definitely not an English major. My vocabulary is pretty basic. I even had to look up a few words to know their meaning. Wow, that makes me sound dumb. HA! Kudos to you, Ms. Taylor. You are a beautiful writer.

Daughter of Smoke & Bone is about a girl named Karou. Karou is a human girl who was raised by demons, so to speak. She falls in love with an angel named Akiva. He's set on destroying all demons because they killed his one true love. This story is about angels and demons. Well, Chimera to be specific. it's about a war in another world from humans. It's about love and family and choices.

Daughter of Smoke & Bone is a brilliant story. I can't believe I haven't read it sooner. Through her writing, Ms. Taylor will make you laugh, cry, get mad, swoon and just feel. I love a good book that makes you feel. I loved everything about this book. Karou's character is fantastic. She's a human girl who was raised by the devil. She's bad ass and she knows it. Akiva's character is dark and mysterious. He reeks of a troubled past and a sensitive heart. The way these two characters connect to each other is fabulous. The cover is gorgeous, the writing is exquisite and the story is something you need to read to believe.

Don't walk, run and get yourself a copy. You do not want to miss out on the magic that is the Daughter of Smoke & Bone.
